Here’s some good news this Veteran’s Day. The unemployment rate for veterans continues to drop year over year according to the Department of Labor, from 4.3% in 2016 to 3.7% in 2017 and 2.9% last month. I come from a strong military background, with my parents meeting in the Marines and my brother just recently returning from a year-long deployment in the Middle East. If you ask me, the unemployment number for our veterans should be zero.

Of course, these numbers are indicative of a strong labor market overall. Just last week the Washington Post reported that the unemployment rate is still at 3.7%, the lowest in almost 50 years. Even compensation is starting to gain momentum again.

As more people quit their jobs, or at least become a lot more comfortable with the idea, companies need proven strategies for building positive, human-centric work cultures that can weather any labor market.
